Secrets of Lavender
Lavender is an aromatic plant of Mediterranean origin, known since antiquity for its delicate scent and healing properties. Its lilac flowers contain essential oils with calming, anti-inflammatory and healing effects, widely used in herbal medicine and aromatherapy to relieve anxiety, promote sleep and purify the environment.
In ritualistic traditions, lavender is associated with spiritual protection, energetic cleansing, and emotional balance. The Romans already used it in baths and ointments, while in the Middle Ages it was burned as a way to ward off evil spirits and diseases. To this day, in different cultures, it appears in smudging, amulets, and offerings associated with serenity and love.
Of European origin, especially widespread in southern France, lavender gained worldwide fame in the Provence region, where it forms extensive lavender fields that have become a symbol of the local landscape. A curiosity is that the name itself comes from the Latin lavare — “to wash” — in reference to the Roman custom of perfuming clothes and bathing waters with its flowers.
